Reading

Yes, I like to read, when I have time. I don't get enough time to read a lengthy novel, but I do love to read magazines and read the newspaper daily. During the summer, I find time to read 3 or 4 books at the pool and beach. When I do find a book that interests me, I can't put it down. I usually finish a good book, depending on length, in two days. My life is so full, which is a blessing, it is just hard to find free time for leisurely reading.
I allow students in my class to pick any books they like during independent reading. I don't like to assign novels, due to a lack of interest from my students. I often read the books in my classroom library and then share the ones I enjoyed with my students. This tends to motivate them to read.
Technology will definitely have an impact on reading. People no longer need to go to the library for a book. You can read from the web. People are reading more than just printed material (books, newspapers, letters), they are now reading from the computer, telephone,( emails, instant messaging). I think technology can only have a positive impact on reading.

The Bluford books are a godsend. My students love those books and are reading them at a rapid rate. Some of my students may actually be part of the next "25 book challenge" at the rate they're going with these books. Try them.

Reading "by the pool", oh how nice that sounds!! Is it summer, yet? I need to see some flowers and feel the sun upon my face. I love the fact that at 6:39PM, it was still light outside. Spring is around the corner. Let's get through GEPA and NJASK.

I'm like you and definitely enjoy reading --- especially in the summer by the pool.....maybe we could swap books-- I buy at least half a dozen every summer or maybe i should start going to the library :)

Reading is an enjoyable past time. If only we had the time to enjoy it.

I agree-- I do most of my reading during the summertime.. There is just too much to do during the school year. Plus, its nice to be by the pool or beach while reading a good book :)

I'm going to Cancun the week after school lets out. I'm already thinking about which books I'll take with me to read on the beach. I'd also love a recommended "good read" for our upcoming spring break.
